Two cats is better than one.
Whether you already have a cat or are considering adding a new feline friend to your family, there are plenty of reasons why adopting two cats has it advantages.
It is important to know that introduction of two cats into a shared space is most successful when both cats have been well socialised with other felines when young. The temperament and personality of each cat is also important. Some cats enjoy socialising with others, whereas other cats do not. The best way to go about it is to bring two well-socialised, friendly kittens into your home at the same time. The advantages of our rescue animals growing up in our volunteer’s homes as opposed to a shelter environment is that they have the opportunity to be well socialised with other fosters in care, as well as close interaction with their human care takers.
Some of the advantages of adopting two cats is that they can provide each other with company, entertainment and mental stimulation. Whilst you are at work, studying or out running errands, they will play, cuddle and snooze the day away
Training will also be much easier. Kittens are visual learners and follow good behaviours by watching others. It will be much easier when learning to groom, play gently and use the litter tray
Two cats will help to keep each other active! Playtime will keep them exercised and enriched for a healthier lifestyle
They will groom one another, an activity that will keep them bonded and their fur coat clean and sleek!
Adopting two cats does not cost much more than adopting a singleton. There will usually be a discounted adoption fee for choosing a pair, and cats will share many necessities within the home such as food, toys, beds, and more.
But the strongest argument for adopting two cats is simple - you are saving two lives! This also creates space for us in foster care to help another two lives that are in need of our rescue.
